Since December 1999, the Appellation of Saint-Emilion in Bordeaux has been listed as a “cultural landscape” on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the first wine-growing region to be awarded this distinction. The splendid town of St. Emilion dates back to the 8th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage site, built entirely of locally mined limestone.
